Brim Analytics launches Brim Field Notes, a live conversation series featuring health system teams putting AI chart abstraction to work, on October 23
NASHVILLE, TN, UNITED STATES, October 5, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Brim Analytics, the AI-powered clinical chart abstraction platform used at academic medical centers across the country, today announced the first session of Brim Field Notes, a new live series featuring the clinical teams behind real-world AI deployments. The inaugural session, on October 23 at 12 p.m. CT, features Beth Bass, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC, NE-BC, of Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC), in conversation with Brim Analytics CEO Dan Fabbri, PhD.
The session will examine how the preoperative assessment team at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt reduced the clinician time spent screening pediatric surgical patients while maintaining 99% agreement with nurse practitioner review.
Each month, nurse practitioners in VUMC’s centralized preoperative assessment clinic review roughly 450 upcoming pediatric surgical cases. Their job is to identify children who are too high risk for a low-acuity ambulatory surgery center and need to be rescheduled at a higher-acuity campus. That means applying dozens of clinical criteria, from cardiac and respiratory conditions to genetic syndromes, implanted devices, and age-specific BMI thresholds, to information often buried in unstructured clinical notes.
Before Brim, the team read every chart by hand. With Brim, high-risk indicators are abstracted automatically, each with the supporting text from the chart. An advanced practice provider still reviews every scheduled patient, but detailed review now focuses on fewer than 50 flagged cases a month. Over a four-month evaluation, Brim’s results agreed with nurse practitioner review 99% of the time.
“Our nurse practitioners used to spend hours combing through charts searching for critical details. Now, Brim brings the relevant information forward, allowing us to focus on validating findings and making clinical decisions,” said Beth Bass, Manager of the Pediatric Assessment and Teaching (PATCH) teams at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.
“Health system leaders don’t need another AI pilot. They need to hear from teams who have put it into daily operations and measured the results,” said Dan Fabbri, co-founder of Brim Analytics. “Brim Field Notes is a place for those teams to share what actually worked, what it took, and what they’d tell a peer starting out.”
The conversation is designed for hospital and clinical operations leaders evaluating AI for chart review. Topics include how the team translated existing clinical criteria into structured abstraction logic, how they validated results against nurse review, and practical lessons for producing accurate, actionable results quickly.
