The hydrogen peroxide-based pet stain and odor remover was the fastest-acting and least expensive of nine cleaners tested, in an evaluation that found the best spray for pet messes isn’t an enzyme cleaner
WARNER ROBINS, Ga., Oct. 7, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Consumer Reports has named OdoBan® Pet Oxy Stain Remover its Top Pick* for pet stains and odors following an evaluation of nine pet stain and odor remover sprays. Consumer Reports reported that Pet Oxy delivered the fastest visible results of all products tested, working immediately upon contact. It was also the least expensive cleaner in the evaluation.

The results appeared in the May 28, 2026, Consumer Reports article, “The Best Spray for Tackling Pet Stains and Odors Is Not an Enzyme Cleaner,” which described the winning product as “fast-acting and budget-friendly.”
Consumer Reports tested the products on carpet samples stained with real dog urine and fabric samples treated with onion juice. The publication evaluated how well each product lifted stains, whether it removed odors or simply masked them, cleaning time and cost, following each product’s directions, including any required contact time. The evaluation also included sprays from Clorox, Nature’s Miracle, Pooph, Puracy, Rocco & Roxie, Simple Green, Skout’s Honor and Zep.
On both the dog urine and onion juice samples, Consumer Reports reported that stains vanished quickly and no odor could be detected after treatment. The publication identified Pet Oxy as the best performer in the test for speed and for removing stains on contact.
Consumer Reports listed no required contact time for Pet Oxy, while some enzyme-based cleaners in the evaluation called for contact times of up to 24 hours. The most expensive products tested cost more than three times as much per ounce. Pet Oxy also received a score of 100, the highest possible, from SkinSafe, which rates products on the presence of the 11 most common allergens.
The findings challenge the long-held assumption that an enzyme cleaner is always the best choice for pet urine, and they point pet owners to a faster alternative. Consumer Reports noted that enzyme cleaners need longer dwell time to work, while oxidizing cleaners act faster on stains. The publication also emphasized that each formula type has pros and cons, and that oxidizers aren’t always suitable for every surface.
“Hydrogen peroxide releases activated oxygen that breaks down molecules responsible for color and smell, and you can see it working right after you spray,” said Stefania Trita, PhD, Senior Chemist at Clean Control Corporation. “Consumer Reports’ third-party testing shows how well this product performs. We believe their independent evaluation reinforces our commitment to developing practical products that meet customers’ expectations.”
“We’re proud that OdoBan Pet Oxy has been named a Consumer Reports Top Pick,” said Steve Davison, Founder and CEO of Clean Control Corporation. “The OdoBan concept has always been to make products that work better than the competition and deliver real value for our customers. To see Pet Oxy recognized for its fast, practical performance reinforces what we’ve always believed: our products should make everyday problems easier to solve.”
